I caught this fish, Wed. June 11th, about 1 pm on a dead
mackerel,
drifting outgoing tide at the jetties. 29 lbs 2 oz, 42 1/2 inches.
I
was very lucky to get it in. It ran the drag (which was set quite
tight) heading up river toward another boat. It appeared it went
under the boat and was about to get tangled in their stern drive.
We yelled to them about the fish. |

They didn't do anything which apparently was
the right thing to do. It was running the drag so quickly, I put
my
thumb on the spool to help slow it down, which worked. Then the
fish
took off toward the South Jetty opposite our boat. I thought
this was
just fine until another boat coming up the river near the jetty, never
saw what I was doing. It was about 150 feet away and just kept
going
over what was my line. I thought it was all over then, but the
fish
was down enough to avoid the line. After much further struggle,
my son
Neal, netted the fish. The day before I was told at Surfland
that
someone had caught a 34 lb bass on a live mackerel in the Parker
River.
